Having witnessed the Spanish Civil War, the rise of Fascism in Europe prior to W.W. II and the rise of the development of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin, he was also aware of the tools employed by these totalitarian regimes to gain and maintain power. Orwell, who had worked for the Ministry of Information in Britain during World War II, understood the way in which governments of all types manipulated the truth to serve their ends. Recent events in Europe and the United States have raised the specter of the emergence of authoritarian governments in countries that have been democratic in nature for a long time. Aside from this, in a general sense, the privacy of individuals is being increasingly adversely affected and individuals are being adversely manipulated through technological advancements. With these things in mind, write a 10 page, double-spaced essay discussing the major themes from 1984 as they relate to the major concepts of the course and contemporary society (last 30 years).
