Purpose: Learn about trans fats and address the role of governments in regulation of food
Resources: textbook and https://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/downloads/trans_fat_final.pdf
Beginning in 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) required all nutrition labels to list the amount of trans fat in the food. It is permissible for a nutrition label to indicate “zero” trans fat if the amount is 0.5 g or less. This is an example when significant figures and rounding play a role! After the FDA regulation, certain cities and states began to ban the use of trans fats in restaurants. In 2015, the FDA announced that it will implement a total ban on trans fats within a three-year period.
